For the Crust
300 g all-purpose flour
200 g unsalted butter, softened
120 g granulated sugar
2 large eggs
For the Apple Filling
4–5 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced
100 g granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Creamy Glaze
150 g powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp milk or cream
½ tsp vanilla extract
👩🍳 Instructions
Prepare the crust:
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Gradually add flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
Layer the base:
Press two-thirds of the dough evenly into a lined baking pan. Set aside the remaining dough.
Make the filling:
In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix well until apples are coated.
Assemble:
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust. Crumble or gently spread the remaining dough over the apples.
Bake:
Bake for 35–40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely.
Glaze:
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over cooled bars. Let set before slicing into squares.
